Wiltshire Lord Lieutenant pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth on 1st anniversary of her death

The Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire has paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the first anniversary of her passing.

The late Queen died a year ago today, on 8th September 2022.

Mrs Sarah Troughton, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire says the anniversary is an opportunity for us to remember a person admired “the world over”.

Thousands of local tributes when the announcement of the Queen’s passing last year, who was the world’s longest reigning monarch at the time, spending 63 years on the throne.

The Lord Lieutenant says it’s a privilege to invite us to “pause and reflect on the memories of her long and unique reign.”

She added: “On your behalf I would also like to send our best wishes to HM King Charles III as he completes the first year of his new reign. God Save the King.”

A special service is taking place at Salisbury Cathedral this evening.

During the Evenson service, special prayers will be said at 5:30pm with thanks given for the years of service the Queen gave to the commonwealth during her reign.

The service is open to all.
