In just two weeks, aspiring councillors will start to put themselves forwards in anticipation of Wiltshire’s local elections in May.

Nominations open at 10.00am on Wednesday, March 12, and the papers must be hand delivered to the council offices in Trowbridge, Chippenham, or Salisbury.

Prospective councillors must also provide the signatures of two subscribers indicating support for the candidate.

These individuals must be on the electoral register within the parish area for parish candidates and within the county division for Wiltshire Council candidates.

Anyone wishing to engage with their communities and represent them during council meetings can put themselves forwards as a candidate, no formal qualifications are necessary.

Candidates can stand as independent members or can contact the local party branch if they wish to stand for a political party.

The notice of the election will be published the day before nominations open, announcing the election for Thursday, May 1.

Candidates then have three weeks to declare themselves before nominations close at 4.00pm, on April 2.

Elections are set to take place for 98 unitary Wiltshire councillors, as well as across the parish and town councils in the county.
