Downton school recognised for creating healthy learning space
70 schools have now been given awards
Schools across the county have been recognised for encouraging healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.
70 schools have now gained accreditation at one of the three levels; bronze, silver, or gold, with 14 coming this term.
Schools that received an award were visited by Youth Councillors.
Schools build on previous developments to promote learning and healthy lifestyle choices, using the whole school approach and teaching Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education.
Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “We have some amazing initiatives from schools who have taken a step back and considered what would really make a difference and these have had a positive impact on pupils and the whole school community.
“I’m delighted that so many schools have received this award and I would encourage more to come forward in the future.”
Downton school earns bronze accreditation
The Trafalgar School in Downton gained a bronze award for an array of work including a wellbeing website for support, a refurbished restaurant with more efficient service, and work to further promote pupil voice and challenge discrimination.
In their visit, Youth Council members were impressed by the high level of pastoral support and extracurricular activities available to students.
Most significantly, they felt teachers and students seemed safe and happy with the school overall.
