We're being asked for our thoughts on provision of Gypsy and Traveller sites across Wiltshire from today (Tuesday 20th August).

The authority's opening a six week consultation on their draft plan, after its approval by the Full Council last week.

A report had found that around 120 new traveller spaces are needed across the county by 2038.

There'll also be a series of engagement events, for us to speak directly to the Council.

That includes a session at Salisbury's Five Rivers Leisure Centre on Wednesday 4th September, between 4.30 and 7.30pm.

An online webinar is also planned for Tuesday 3rd September from 6.00 to 7.30pm.

Cllr Nick Botterill, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, said:

"The council is planning for all members of the community here in Wiltshire and our Business Plan commits to seek to improve health outcomes for the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.

“Meeting the housing needs of this community is a key part of why the draft Gypsies and Travellers Development Plan Document, which looks ahead to 2038, has been prepared.

“I’d urge people to take part in the consultation and let us know their views."

Once adopted, the Plan will be included within the Wiltshire Local Plan review and be checked over by an Inspector.

If approved, the Plan would be adopted later in 2025.
