Wiltshire voluntary groups and charities are being encouraged to apply for support from local supplier Wessex Water.

Applications are opening up for this year's Community Fund, with grants of up to ÂŁ4,000 available, distributed by Wiltshire Community Foundation.

It's aimed at helping projects in the county that 'bring people together to build stronger communities'.

Last year the Fund awarded more than ÂŁ42,000 to 13 groups across Wiltshire.

Harnham Day Centre in Salisbury, and Home Start South Wiltshire, were both among those given grants last time around.

Wessex Water head of community engagement Kirsty Scarlett said:

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Wiltshire Community Foundation to support our customers across the local area.

“Over the last six years our funding has supported a wide range of groups and organisations all working together to build stronger communities in Wiltshire.

“We know how local groups and volunteers can really make a huge difference to people’s lives and we are proud to be able to support this work.”

Wiltshire Community Foundation joint chief executive Fiona Oliver said:

“Wessex Water’s Community Fund is a really important programme, which has a significant impact at grassroots level, as the money will be going to voluntary groups and charities who understand local need.

“We are thankful to Wessex Water for continuing to work alongside us, as we enter our fifth year of working together to build stronger communities and tackle need.”

The fund is open for applications from 23rd September until 18th October, with decisions being made by early December.

Priority will be given to work that takes place in areas of deprivation or rural isolation, work that enables people to work together to create solutions to local challenges, and work that helps people to build their financial capability by taking steps to manage or avoid debt.

Applications can be made by groups through the Wiltshire Community Foundation website.
