Caution urged around open water by Fire Service bosses
Heat health warnings remain in place until Monday morning
Fire service bosses in Wiltshire are urging us to be mindful around open water as temperatures remain high.
A heat health warning from the Met Office is in place until 9am on Monday morning.
Stuart Gillion from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) told us the county's rivers and canals aren't as safe as they appear.
"There's a lot of hidden dangers below the surface in terms of depth, in terms of objects hidden below the surface and water temperature," he said.
He stressed that the low temperature of the water can put us in a lot of danger."
Stuart said: "Extremely cold water can lead to cold water shock. It can lead to difficulties people becoming in difficulty in the water and not able to exit, because your entry and exit points from water can be challenging."
He added that when carrying out a rescue, Fire Service personnel face the same challenges, although they are trained in how to protect themselves and will be equipped with personal protective equipment to keep them warm.
Stuart strongly advises use to use marked and recognised safe areas that will reduce the need for an emergency response.
