Wiltshire Council helping unpaid carers with PPE
The authority say they're now able to provide equipment after a change in Government advice
Wiltshire Council has described unpaid carers, who are doing what they can to look after friends and family, as the 'unsung heroes' of the pandemic.
They've been given updated guidance from the Government that means carers will now be able to get PPE from Wiltshire Council.
The authority is working with Carers Support Wiltshire to make sure it gets to the people that need it.
Cllr Simon Jacobs, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Protection said:
"Our unpaid carers are our unsung heroes doing an amazing job for those needing care. Now, following the government announcement we are working with Carer Support Wiltshire to ensure eligible carers receive the PPE packs."
HOW TO GET PPE FROM WILTSHIRE COUNCIL
Carers can get in touch with Carers Support Wiltshire directly by calling 01380 908008.
The equipment can be requested if you're going into the home of someone you don't live with to provide care or support.
They'll arrange delivery and give advice on how to use and dispose of the PPE correctly.
Judy Walker, Chief Executive, Carer Support Wiltshire said:
"We're pleased the government is recognising and supporting the tens of thousands of unpaid carers in Wiltshire who are caring for vulnerable members of our society. They have suffered a lot of anxiety and worry and gone to great lengths to keep their loved ones safe since the start of the pandemic. They have been truly amazing.
"Giving unpaid carers who are unable to isolate with the person they care for, because they are keyworkers or in education or providing care to someone outside of their household, access to PPE in line with paid carers will reduce the risk of the virus being transmitted to someone who is vulnerable."
The helpline to access the PPE is open Monday to Thursday, 9.30am to 4.30pm, and on Fridays, 9.30am to 4.00pm.
There's also more information for carers to make sure their staying safe and have access to any additional help on the Carers Support Wiltshire website.
