Wiltshire Council to set up 'warm spaces' during cost of living crisis
They're also collating all the local support that's already available
A set of 'warm spaces' are to be set up within Wiltshire Council buildings, like libraries, this winter.
They're being planned to help people struggling to heat their homes during the cost of living, so they have somewhere to go, free of charge and keep safe.
The authority's also putting together a 'one-stop-shop' of information from local groups and community networks, showing all the support that's already available to support people across the county.
An interactive map is being created to highlight warm spaces and charitable food providers.
The details are expected to be collated this week, with the additional warm spaces within Wiltshire Council buildings soon.
All the information, including advice on energy saving, council tax support, and benefits, as well as mental health advice, is on a dedicated cost of living section of the Wiltshire Council website. |newtab)
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:
“Just as we saw during the pandemic, residents and communities up and down the county are joining forces to help people in need and look out for one another. We know how tiring it is that such resolve is required again, but we’ll do what we can to guide people through this very challenging time.
“It’s difficult to say with much certainty, given the unpredictability of national and international events, what impact people and businesses will feel during the rising cost of living, but the work and preparation we do now will help us all as the situation develops.
“We are working hard to get our own warm spaces up and running, which will be informed by the data collection we’re doing, and we are also collaborating with partners to look at any other ways to support people.
“We thank everyone out there doing what they can and it’s something we never take for granted.”
