Council Cabinet to consider plans to upgrade bus stop infrastructure across Wiltshire
If approved the contract would see an investment in Wiltshire's bus shelters and infrastructure including flags and timetable cases
Wiltshire Council's Cabinet are to consider whether to approve a contract for a government-funded project to improve bus shelters and bus stop infrastructure throughout the county.
The cabinet will meet on 9th December to discuss the contract which if approved would be funded through the Government's Local Authority Bus Grant.
The decision to award the contract would then be delegated to the Director of Highways and Transport.
The contract would include the design, supply, installation, and maintenance of bus shelters and bus stop infrastructure including poles, flags, timetable cases and measures to improve access to stops.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Buses play a vital role in connecting our communities, and we know how important it is to provide high-quality bus shelters that meet the needs of local people.
"If Cabinet agrees to proceed with this award, it will mark an important step towards improving Wiltshire’s public transport infrastructure, in line with our Bus Service Improvement Plan.
"Many of our bus shelters need repair or replacement, and this contract will ensure we can deliver high-quality, accessible facilities that encourage more people to use public transport.”
If approved, the contract would run for five years from February 2026 to February 2031, with the possibility of extending for up to five additional years.
