Wiltshire Council's been checking the national restrictions that have come into force today (Thursday 5th November) and now confirmed that services that will remain open.

They've said the 'majority' will keep running, as normally as possible.

Here's the list of services staying open:

  • Social care services
  • Revenue and benefits
  • Household recycling centres and waste collection
  • Car parks - car parking fees will remain but people are advised to only travel if essential
  • Public parks
  • Street markets will continue with traders only able to sell food
  • Allotments
  • Registration services can conduct birth registrations and declarations via face-to-face appointments, notices of marriage and civil partnerships via face to face appointments, and death appointments by telephone. Funerals can be held but restricted to 30 mourners
  • Some libraries will provide an order and collect service - but more details will follow on this (we're told any books currently loaned out will be extended for the duration of the restrictions)
  • Visitors allowed to main council hubs, like Salisbury's Bourne Hill - but people are advised to only do this if absolutely necessary
  • Rough sleepers in Wiltshire will be supported in the usual way

There are a few services that won't be able to continue while the lockdown is in place though:

  • Wiltshire Council-run leisure centres will close temporarily
  • Leisure groups like Active Health, Get Wiltshire Walking, running programme, StreetGames, Healthier Communities, Walking Sports and Ability Sports aren't able to run
  • Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre will be shut temporarily
  • Weddings aren't permitted to go ahead
  • There's more on the closure of leisure centres on our news page.

Cllr Philip Whitehead, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:

"We run a breadth of services at Wiltshire Council and we are determined that as many of them as possible continue throughout these increased restrictions. People and businesses will rely on us even more during this difficult time so it's vital we're there for them providing support, as we have done right throughout the pandemic.

"We hope the services affected will be back up and running as normal very soon and we thank people for their patience. In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidance and play their part, so that we can get through to the other side of this as quickly as possible."

The Wellbeing Hub, set up by Wiltshire Council during the first lockdown, remains open, for anyone needing support, advice or guidance.
