Wiltshire Council not expecting lost revenue during Salisbury Central Car Park disruption
The car park currently has a reduced capacity due to the River Park Project
Wiltshire Council say they're not expecting to lose money from the lack of car parking spaces at Salisbury's Central Car Park.
The parking facility has reduced capacity as a result of the River Park project, which is nearing completion.
"We are anticipating these sites will benefit from the displaced parking offsetting any lost revenue at Central Car Park," the council said in a statement.
Responding to a Freedom of Information request by Greatest Hits Radio, the council said a problem with car parking spaces had been identified early on.
However, a budget for contingency plans was only allocated after consulting with a number of local organisations. This included Salisbury City Council, Salisbury Experience, Salisbury BID, Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire Creative and The Playhouse.
These organisations were asked for their input on how to best manage the situation in order to minimise disruption to local events in the lead up to Christmas.
A number of signs have been placed around the city advertising the park and ride service, as well as directing shoppers to alternative car parks, such as Culver Street car park.
In a statement, the council said: "The signs and advertising initiatives are wider than just Salisbury River Park and are about promoting Christmas in Salisbury. They are aimed at encouraging people to still come to Salisbury but use either the park and ride service or alternative car parks to Central Car Park."
