The number of referrals being made to the Wiltshire Council Reablement Service has tripled.

In its first year, reablement had 1,000 referrals – but that figure has gone up to 3,340 referrals in 2022.

The service supports adults to re-learn skills they might have lost through illness, hospital stays or other issues.

The service, which launched in 2018, has recently passed five years of provision for people who live independently at home.

Therapy staff numbers have doubled since opened, with 51 now on board, as well as 130 reablement provider staff.

Cllr Jane Davies, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said: “I’m really proud that our reablement team has achieved some incredible results, and in the last year.

“78% of people were still in their home three months after having had reablement support, showing the great long-term results for the people they work with.”

Reablement is an intensive, short-term support service delivered by specialist social care staff. They work with adults in their own homes to assist in their re-learning skills they may have lost and allow them to do things by themselves again.

The team aim to work with people in the community to identify their strengths and assets and live the best life they can.
