An area between Britford and Salisbury has been proposed by Wiltshire Council to be the location of a new 335 home development.

They would build approximately 220 properties in the field north of the A338 Downton Road, with another 115 behind the Britford Park and Ride site to the south of the road.

The area was proposed in the Wiltshire Local Plan Review, which has earmarked places that could be built on in the future.

These all went through a six stage selection process before they were named.

From 2016 to 2036, Wiltshire Council is required to build 5,240 new homes.

A website has been set up by Britford and Salisbury residents who have many concerns about these proposals.

A concept of the new homes

Residents are worried about the lines being blurred between Salisbury and Britford and they say the city will effectively merge into the village.

Derek Finnis from Britford Parish Council has confirmed they are against the plans.

He told us the proposals don't preserve the separation between Salisbury and Britford, it doesn't preserve the view and the field floods in the winter making the land very unsuitable for developments.

Robert Lewis owner of Britford Farm Shop is also against the plan, which could actually bring him more business.

He told us:

"My business is successful anyway, so I don't see pound signs.

"What I see is a unique and beautiful view and a very beautiful setting that my shop sits in being eroded."

IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR SAY

You have until March 9th to have your say on the plans.

Cllr Toby Sturgis, Cabinet Member for Planning at Wiltshire Council said:

"It’s really important that people take this opportunity to let us know what they think, as feedback we receive will help to shape the next 15 years of development in Wiltshire."

All the Local Plan documents and an online form for people to have their say are on Wiltshire Council's website.

You can also call 0300 456 0100 to speak to an officer if you don’t have access to the internet, and can also request printed copies of the documents and write to the local authority to submit comments.
