Where should new houses be built across Wiltshire?
A consultation's begun on the Wiltshire Local Plan
Last updated 13th Jan 2021
Wiltshire Council has to review their Local Plan every five years, with the previous plan adopted in 2015.
The plan looks at things like where new housing developments could be built, the infrastructure that's needed and allocate space for employment land, to cover the next 15 years.
The authority believes they have 'sufficient land to satisfy the county's housing and employment needs up to 2036'.
The latest update to the plan and the consultation that begins today (Wednesday 13th January) will look at whether the distribution of housing sites across the county is correct, and which sites are most suitable.
HAVE YOUR SAY
There's more information about the consultation on the Wiltshire Council website.
A total of 17 online public meetings are also being held over the next few weeks to give us a chance to find out more about how the plan could affect our local area.
Each session is focussed on a particular settlement, and will be held between 7.00 and 8.00pm on the following dates:
- Tidworth and Ludgershall - Wednesday 20th January
- Amesbury - Thursday 21st January
- Salisbury - Tuesday 26th January
- Rural events, which include all other Wiltshire villages and settlements - Monday 1st February and Tuesday 2nd February
You can sign up to take part in any of the meetings via an online form.
REVIEWING GYPSY AND TRAVELLER SITES
A second consultation also begins today (Wednesday 13th January) into the Wiltshire Gypsies and Travellers Plan.
That allocates land in 'sustainable locations' that can provide both temporary and permanent accommodation for travellers up until 2036.
You can find out more about that on the Wiltshire Council website.
Both consultations will end on Tuesday 9th March.
