Wiltshire Council Leader calls for A303 Tunnel scheme reinstatement
The Stonehenge Tunnel project was scrapped earlier this year
The Leader of Wiltshire Council has called for the controversial A303 Stonehenge Tunnel project to be reinstated ahead of this weeks Autumn Budget.
Cllr Richard Clewer has told Greatest Hits Radio that it's the one thing he 'really wants' from the Chancellor's announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
Cllr Clewer said:
"Like the tunnel or loath it, it's the only option that we've got that deals with the complexities of the World Heritage site."
He described the traffic issues caused by the current format as 'absolute chaos', adding that it's hindering economic development down to the West.
Cllr Clewer said the transport problem on the A303 is one he needs resolved.
We've asked the Government if the budget will include funding for road schemes such as the A303 Stonehenge Tunnel project.
They've declined to comment on the issue.
