Wiltshire households who subscribe to garden waste collections are asked to renew, or risk missing a pick-up.

But we're warned the price is increasing again this year to £70 - that's up from £66 in 2023 and £60 the year before.

Renewals need to be made online |newtab) or by calling 0300 456 0103 by 28th June to make sure their collections continue without a gap.

Waste crews know who's registered for garden waste collections by using in-vehicle technology and stickers on the green bins themselves.

The green bins have helped to recycle 32,000 tonnes of waste in the last year, with 84,000 households signed up

Cllr Dominic Muns, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

"From 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 we collected more than 32,000 tonnes of garden waste from over 84,000 households in Wiltshire.

"All of the garden waste collected in Wiltshire is composted locally, which helps reduce pollution and also diverts waste from landfill.

"Wiltshire residents can also buy this bagged compost from any of our household recycling centres or directly from Hills Waste Solutions if larger volumes are required.

"Our aim is to reduce the amount of Wiltshire's waste going to landfill as much as possible. In addition to composting all of the garden waste material we collect, we also ask people to recycle as much of their household waste as possible. As part of our award-winning Recycling Let's Sort It campaign, we encourage people to sort their waste before visiting household recycling centres or to make use of the sorting tables on site if they are unable to sort their waste at home. Sorting waste using the guidance on our website or at sorting stations means we can recycle more material and reduces the amount of waste going to landfill. Please do visit our website to find out more and help us reduce waste and pollution to protect the environment.

"I thank residents in advance for all their support in helping us recycle as much as possible.

The green bins can take bark, grass cuttings, cut flowers, weeds, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs and small branches.

Items like fruit and vegetable peelings, food waste, soil and rubble, pet litter and animal waste should go into the black bin, while cardboard and paper should go into the blue lidded bin.
