Wiltshire's Chief Constable thanks public for their support in 2020
We are being urged to stay safe and be responsible as we head into the new year
Wiltshire Police's Chief Constable has released an end of year message thanking residents for all their support during a difficult year.
Filmed in front of Salisbury Cathedral, Kier Pritchard recorded a video as we see out 2020 and enter 2021.
He said:
"I wanted to start today's video message by saying a huge thank you to all of our communities across Wiltshire and Swindon for your unwavering support for the force over the last 12 months.
2020 has clearly been a challenging year for all of us, some would say unprecedented, we've all needed to make personal choices, change habits, we haven't had the same kind of contact with friends and family that we would normally look forward to in our personal and private lives."
The Chief Constable spoke about how pleased he was with the support that the force have received over the last year and hopes it will continue into next year.
He also urged us to continue following the coronavirus restrictions and rules:
"Thank you for the support you've shown my officers over the year, I know Christmas is normally a time that we let things pass by and we normally enjoy the festivities with our friends and our families but this year is going to be very different so please ensure that you stay local, ensure that you stay safe, act responsibly and of course stay within the guidelines and the rules.
I know for some of you that this means you'll be seeing family members online, some of you may not even be seeing family members and waiting until maybe the vaccine arrives but please stay safe and be responsible.
You can guarantee policing will be here to protect you 24 hours a day whether that's Christmas, new year or any other time of the year, my officers and staff will be here to protect you throughout. So thank you for your support, as I say, 2021 will hopefully be a better year for us all as the news of the vaccine continues to unfold.
So have a fantastic Christmas and I hope you have a prosperous 2021, thank you."
