A Wiltshire-based domestic abuse charity is demanding urgent action from the Government if it's to achieve it's aims in tackling violence against women.

Fear Free says educating young people about healthy relationships is vital to improving safety for women and girls across the country.

It follows a man from Bath being jailed for stabbing a woman and a 33 year old man from Frome being sentenced to life behind bars for murdering his ex-partner in Bristol last week.

CEO Debbie Beadle told us: "We've been talking about early intervention for a long time and it works."

She added: "Working with young people and working in schools, to make sure that young people are aware about what healthy behaviour is, what it is to be in a healthy relationship.

"All of that needs to be prioritised and we're just not seeing that unfortunately."

She told us that funding is needed urgently: "We're seeing these cases time and time again. The Government has vowed to end violence against women and girls by 2050 and we're definitely nowhere near that, these cases prove that."

Debbie says the funding is well overdue, telling us that the calls have been being made throughout her more than two decades in the sector.

"It is exhausting that we've been saying the same thing time and time again," she said.

Debbie said charities like Fear Free need "sustainable" funding as trusts that had been supporting them with grants are beginning to struggle for funding themselves.

The government has pledged to halve violence against women in the next decade and will support schools in teaching about healthy relationships.
