£2.1 million to be invested in Wiltshire bus services
The money's in but the Council want to clarify what they can spend it on
The Department for Transport (DfT) has awarded Wiltshire Council £2.1 million to improve the county’s bus services.
Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We’re delighted to receive this funding from the government to improve bus services here in Wiltshire.
She added: “We are committed to supporting the local economy, leisure and tourism, improving services to support vulnerable and elderly residents, and reducing carbon emissions.”
In it’s business plan, the council set out a mission to have ‘vibrant, well-connected communities’. The mission also includes a pledge to make rural bus links better.
The council say they are seeking clarification from the DfT on exactly what the funding can be spent on, but they have various projects ready to go.
Cllr Thomas said: “This additional funding will enable us to continue to invest in bus services across the county. Buses are vital to connect people in a rural county like ours, and this funding, along with measures such as the Government’s recently extended £2 bus fare promotion, will help to keep Wiltshire moving.”
