Public meeting on future of Wilton's St Peter's Project to be held today
The aim is to reuse it as a place of worship and a community facility
There's a chance for people living in Wilton to find out how they can help with a £500,000 project to repurpose St Peter's Church.
A public meeting is being held in the town at Michael Herbert Hall today (Saturday 2nd November) to discuss progress on the Wilton Sunrise Project.
The project aims to convert the church into a place of worship and a community facility.
Neil Prigent from the team told us a lot of the other community spaces in Wilton are fully booked, with St Peter's location between the old and new town, making a great location for a new community facility.
The meeting is set to be attended by Salisbury MP John Glen and the George Herbert in Bemerton Group.
Neil said the support is vital: "It's lovely to see these people showing an interest and taking time out of their busy diary to come along and see us.
"The importance of the church signifies the relevance to the community and it's such an important development for us," he added.
It's estimated that the project will cost between £500,000 and £700,000, with £20,000 in grant funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund already secured.
Neil told us there's a lot of work that needs to be done.
"We have no electric in there, no gas and no toilet facilities either, so there's a number things that we need to do, on top of the fact that the roof needs to be repaired and all those things that come with a very old building," he said.
The meeting takes place from 10.00am at the Michael Herbert Hall on South Street.
