Wilton House has been named among the most 'Instagram-worthy' locations where popular Netflix drama The Crown has been filmed.

The first half of the final series of the show is being streamed by fans at the moment, with the South Wiltshire stately home featuring as the backdrop for state rooms at Buckingham Palace.

With 13,514 social media posts, Wilton House has been ranked 10th in the rundown of filming locations.

Top of the list was York Minster, which doubled as St George's Chapel in Windsor; Canary Wharf, which was used to film scenes based on 1990s Chicago; and Winchester Cathedral, which has stood in for both St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey over the show's six seasons.

The study's been conducted by CasinosSweeps.com, analysing over 589,000 Instagram posts featuring location-specific hashtags for 37 filming locations from season six.

Here's the full top ten, with their number of Insta posts:

  • York Minster - 210,933
  • Canary Wharf, London - 80,584

In the study, Wilton House is described as:

"A centuries-old Wiltshire property often been used to recreate the grand interiors of Buckingham Palace. The majestic country pile has also been used in the filming of another hit Netflix series, Bridgerton, and the latest film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, starring Anya Taylor-Joy."

A spokesperson from CasinosSweeps.com said:

“Hit shows such as The Crown are helping the niche form of film tourism flourish. Not only do TV series provide entertainment to many, but they also financially benefit many filming locations. The featured spots often see a rise in visitor numbers, giving them an economic boost.

With the historical drama coming to an end this season, it will be interesting to note whether the filming locations starring in season six will see an increase in tourism. It could be a key indicator of how well the season has performed with audiences.”
