The stately home and 22 acre grounds traditionally opens during the Easter Holidays but whilst outdoor attractions are now allowed to open under the government's roadmap the site won't welcome any visitors until May 17th.

The estate is popular with familes for its extensive grounds, river and large adventure playground.

A post on the Wilton House website explained more.

"We hope visitors will appreciate the reasons for opening later in the year than usual but we are introducing measures to ensure we comply with the Government guidelines to provide a safe environment for visitors and our staff."

Please note that some facilities will remains closed for the time being (The Adventure Playground, the Gift Shop, the Classic Car Exhibition and the film) but we will be reviewing the position as the Government guidelines change."

The large adventure playground is popular with families.

Visitors to either the House or Grounds will have to book in advance, including members, and there will be a limited number of tickets available for set entry times.

You'll be able to book from the 4th of May.

This advance booking system will continue for the "foreseeable future."

The Grounds will be open from 11am to 530pm Sunday to Thursday from the 17th May to 5th September and on Bank Holiday Saturdays, so the 29th May and 28th August only.

People walking their dogs in the Wilton Estate are being asked to "lead by example"

Staff stress both the House and Grounds may be closed at short notice due to family commitments and unforeseen circumstances.
