New Forest moving towards more modern waste collection service
It's the first wheelie bins to be used in the area
The New Forest District Council (NFDC) are taking the first steps towards more modern and efficient waste collection for residents.
As part of the NFDC’s wider waste strategy, people living in the area can sign up for a garden waste wheelie bin, which will replace the bags currently used for the collection of garden waste and no longer be collected from 1st April 2024.
It marks the first time the District Council will be implementing wheeled bins as part of any waste collection service.
Residents can sign up to join the new garden waste wheeled bin collection service online at newforest.gov.uk/gardenwaste.
Councillor Geoffrey Blunden, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability said “We are pleased to be moving forwards with changes to the garden waste collection service, which I believe will result in a modern, safe, and more efficient service for both residents and staff.
“I would like to thank all our garden waste customers who support us to recycle around 5,000 tonnes of garden waste every year. There are options for residents who are keen to recycle garden waste, from our charged-for collection service, to composting at home or taking garden waste to Hampshire County Council’s tips.”
The new service will cost £65 for a year’s worth of collections, which will be every fortnight, as well as a one-off fee of £25 to supply the 240L bin. The bins are black with brown lids and offer double the capacity of the bags.
People who sign up before the 23:59pm on 24th November will save £25 and have their bins delivered between January and March next year, ahead of the new service starting in April.
