Wessex Country Fair returns to Wilton Estate after two year absence

The event raises crucial funds for Salisbury Hospice

Published 6th Aug 2022

The Wessex Country Fair makes its return to the Wilton Estate today with organisers promising it'll be 'bigger and better than ever.'

The popular event hasn't been held since 2019 due to Covid and is one of Salisbury Hospice's biggest fundraisers generating £30,000 three years ago.

This year for the first time there will be evening entertainment with West Country legends The Wurzels the headline act.

The music stage will be live from midday to 10pm offering a variety of country, blues, jazz and folk music.

Local artists include Ribble, The Navy Larks, Sticky Toffee Jazz and The Acrustic Badger Band.

The Wurzels will take to the stage at 8.45pm.

The main arena will see a range of demonstrations and performances as well as a falconry show and sheep dog act.

They'll be craft demonstrations and a marquee selling goods along with the ever popular dog show!

Old favourites the steam and vehicle exhibits, will be returning - as well as children’s attractions including a fairground, donkey rides and competitions.

There will be an array of steam engines on display too.

Also new this year is “Show and Shine” for camper vans, which will allow visitors the opportunity to check out features of the vehicles.

There will also be a food court and two bars available.

The Hospice Village, which is at the heart of the fair will enable visitors to chat to experienced staff about hospice services.

You can also try your hand at some of the therapies patients experience such as pebble painting and meet the therapy dogs.

Salisbury Hospice Charity aims to raise £1.5 million of the £2.9 million running costs of the Hospice each year.

The hospice helps nearly 1,000 people every year, not just those with cancer but others who have long term conditions such as chronic lung disease, motor neurone disease and heart failure.
