A walking group around Salisbury’s Victoria Park is being trialled today (28th September) as part of the Silver Salisbury Festival fortnight.

It’s been set up by Ramblers Wellbeing Walk group, with their team of trained volunteers walk leaders.

Interested walkers are meeting at 10am this morning, with the hope of launching a weekly walk to aid health and allow new people to meet.

Founder and walk leader Pam Rouquette says this first walk is an opportunity to introduce the idea of group walking to people in the area.

“With all the benefits that this provides physically and socially. If popular this could become a regular activity,” Pam said.

The walks are backed by the Salisbury City Council Communities Team, which is headed up by Sarah Gregson.

“It is not always easy to motivate yourself to get walking alone, so working with our partners, the Ramblers Wellbeing Walks group, who create such welcoming groups, has become an important part of what we do.”

The wellbeing walks are free and have start points that are easily accessible by bus.

Today’s walk in Victoria Park will last 30 minutes, ending at the park kiosk for tea, coffee and conversation.
