The Met Office is warning of the risk posed by strong winds across Wiltshire on Boxing Day (Saturday 26th December).

It's ahead of the arrival of what is now being named by forecasters as Storm Bella.

A yellow warning has now been issued for the county from 3.00pm on Saturday (December 26th) to 12.00pm midday on Sunday (December 27th).

WHAT WE CAN WE EXPECT?

The Met Office says we can expect:

  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges likely to close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen

"In addition to the strong winds, a period of heavy, squally rain is expected and may prove an additional hazard."
