An organisation supporting people affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions in Chippenham tells us a grant from the town council will help them meet growing demand.

We Hear You (WHY) has been given £2,912 by Chippenham Town Council in its latest round of Council grants.

The charity offers free or low-charge counselling and therapy sessions to anyone aged four and above who is being affected by life-threatening conditions or cancer.

Head of Fundraising, James Richards, told Greatest Hits Radio that being close to someone with a diagnosis can take its toll on a persons emotional well-being and health.

"We celebrated our 30th anniversary last year and demand for our services and support is really only growing," he said. "Obviously the charity sector as a whole is quite constrained at the moment. So the support that we get from communities helps us to do what we do and support people through one of the most difficult times of their lives."

James says the grant will allow the charity to continue offering that support for free, or at low-cost, but it will enable clients to be helped through other services WHY provides.

"We have a number of other services that we offer, including coffee connections, which is an informal gathering of people so funding can help to support that as well as the counselling and therapy. We also have, WHY Grow, which is an informal gardening support group and WHY Be Mindful which helps people learn mindfulness techniques that can help them to stay well," James said.

People can self-refer for support through the WHY website, calling them or sending an e-mail.
