Bosses at Salisbury District Hospital have made the difficult decision this afternoon (Tue 29 Dec) to immediately suspend ALL visiting except for those receiving end of life care and those patients with special needs.

The move is a direct result of the continuous and fast growing number of patients being cared for at SDH who've tested positive for coronavirus.

This decision to suspend visits has been made to protect patients and staff and support the safe operating of the hospital.

        WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Anyone planning to visit loved ones at the Hospital should contact the relevant ward in advance and discuss alternative ways to keep in touch.

Access for partners to support mothers during labour remains unchanged and partners can attend with mothers for some clinics and for limited periods on the post-natal wards.

RAPID RISE IN COVID CASES AT SDH

Judy Dyos Director of Nursing told Greatest Hits Salisbury:

"We currently have 47 in-patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 being cared for at the hospital, this is an increase from 22 a week ago and exceeds the maximum number during the first wave in April."

"This rate of increase means that the difficult decision has been made to suspend all visiting except for those patients approaching end of life or with special care needs. We are asking that anyone planning to visit a loved one at the hospital to contact the ward in advance and consider alternative methods to stay in touch. All departments at the hospital remain open and we would encourage patients with appointments to attend as planned."
