A man from Upavon has been banned from driving for 29 months after being stopped more than three times over the legal alcohol limit.

Andrew Drake, 36, of Devizes Road, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at Salisbury Magistrates' Court.

At around 8pm on Friday 18th December 2020, an officer stopped a White Volkswagen Scirocco on the Longbarrow Roundabout near Amesbury.

They had reason to believe Drake was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

At Melksham Police Station he returned provided a reading of more than three times the legal limit.

Drake was also given a community order to carry out 240 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.

His disqualification will be reduced if he completes a driving course.

PC Michael Tryhorn of the Roads Policing Unit said:

"Drink driving increases the likelihood of a road traffic collisions which could result in serious injury or death.

It was clear on the evening in question that Drake's ability to drive was impaired by high levels of alcohol in his system and he put lives at risks.

Had he not been stopped by officers when he did, he posed a serious risk to other road users as well as himself.

There is never an excuse to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after having a drink. Either don't make the journey or get somebody else to drive."

Anyone that is suspicious of someone driving dangerously or under the influence of alcohol should call 101.

If you believe they are already behind the wheel, call 999.
