A Trowbridge man has admitted to stealing a vehicle and two further driving offences.

James Brewer, 49, of The Slipway in Staverton, was arrested on Sunday after being identified through CCTV footage.

It follows a stolen vehicle being reported on Friday in central Trowbridge.

He was charged with handling stolen goods, driving without third party insurance and driving while disqualified, all of which he pleaded guilty to at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.

He'll be sentenced on 19th June.

Investigating officer PC Langley of Trowbridge Response said: “This case sends a clear message that those who steal vehicles and put others at risk by driving illegally will be identified and brought to justice.

“Thanks to diligent CCTV enquiries, swift arrest work, and strong partnership between officers from Trowbridge Responses Teams 1 and Team 2, we were able to quickly recover the stolen vehicle and secure key evidence.

“Due to this swift work and evidence obtained the defendant had no option other than to plead guilty.

“We understand the significant impact vehicle crime has on victims, both financially and emotionally and we will continue to target those who think they can act with impunity.

“I hope this result offers some reassurance to the victim and the wider public that we take these offences seriously and will always act robustly.”
