Hikers supporting Wiltshire dementia patients with Trek26 Stonehenge
Almost a million people suffer from the disease in the UK
Hundreds of people are walking across the South-Wiltshire countryside today in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
Trek26 Stonehenge will see hikers and people who love the outdoors making a 13 or 26 mile walk to Stonehenge.
Alzheimer’s Society say it’s never been more important to unite against the disease.
There are currently over 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK, with a person developing dementia every three minutes.
The 26-mile route starts at Hudson’s Field in Salisbury, before participants wend their way over water meadows, high ridges and quiet woodland as they follow medieval trading routes.
A 13-mile course is also available and joins the 26-mile route in Great Wishford, where walkers will see Stonehenge.
Both groups will circle south and take on the chalk ridges and valleys back to Old Sarum.
Dave, who took part last year said:
"The whole day was one of the best ever experiences, there is such a feel good, happy atmosphere. Seeing the finish line and hearing the music, the MC and the cheers from the crowd lifts you up and all your aches & pains disappear and you literally float over the line and the pride in what you have just achieved is exhilarating!"
