A total of 100 trees are being felled along the B3095 in Mere, to prevent the spread of Ash Dieback.

The disease can be fatal to trees, with the Woodland Trust claiming it will kill 80% of ashes in the UK.

It originated in Asia and doesn't cause much damage to native trees, but European ash hasn't evolved to fight it.

Wiltshire Council's carrying out the work to remove the trees in Mere.

They started yesterday (Monday 24th April) and expect it to be completed by Friday afternoon (28th April) at the latest.

Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place while the work's underway, so the road doesn't have to be fully closed.
