Soldiers from the Royal Corps of Signals have planted 100 ash trees near Bulford to mark their centenary.

The event, called Treemendous 100, is just one of the few anniversary celebrations for the Royal Corps that has been able to go ahead this year due to the pandemic.

They wanted to support the Government's Woodland Carbon Guarentee Scheme to plant 11 million trees by 2022 so decided to do their bit at Double Henges.

Originally, they had planned to include school children, businesses and environmental groups in the planting, but lockdown forced the event to be scaled back.

The unit was also marking National Tree Week.

Garrison Sergeant Major Tidworth, Netheravon and Bulford Garrison, Warrant Officer Class 1 Kerry Mills said:

"This has been a fantastic project for the Royal Signals and for the British Army. We have created a copse that will be enjoyed by local service and civilian families for years to come and contributed to the Government’s commitment to the environment."

It was part of the Royal Corps of Signals centenary celebrations

The copse at Double Hedges now features a hand-carved tree trunk bench and the project was supported by Landmarc, Gavin Jones landscape management company, Aspire and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
