A tree celebrating Salisbury's multi-faith community, and dedicated by royalty, has now been given a permanent home in the city.

Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, dedicated the Magnolia during a visit to Salisbury on September 14th. |newtab)

The plaque on the tree reads:

"This tree was dedicated by HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh on 14 September 2023 to celebrate diversity and inter-faith relations in the City. Attended by the 762nd Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Atiqul Hoque."

It's now been planted at Queen Elizabeth Gardens by the city's Mayor.

The tree will now remain in Queen Elizabeth Gardens alongside its plaque

The royal visit was part of Cllr Hoque's campaign to bring people of different backgrounds together during his mayoral year.

Speaking to us on the day the Duchess came to Salisbury, he said it had been a great day:

"She was a very down to earth lady. When we sat down to lunch, she wanted to speak about Salisbury."
