A public meeting is taking place next week

One of the few advantages of lockdown has been a reduction in traffic which has been appreciated by those living along Church Road.

But locals and Laverstock and Ford Parish Council say the longstanding issues still remain and need to be addressed.

With four schools located on the road , St Joesph's, Wyven College, St Edmund's and Laverstock St Andrews C of E, it can understandably get busy.

It's often used as a cut through to get from the A36 to the A30 or A338.

WORKING GROUP

Since September a working group involving Laverstock & Ford Parish Council, Wiltshire Council, local residents, the Police and leaders from the schools has been meeting regularly to look at long term solutions.

A public meeting will take place on Monday (8th March) at 5pm on Zoom to enable local residents and parents to hear about the progress that has been made and to comment on some of the possible next steps.

The Parish Council explains what's been done so far

"The work undertaken so far has included short term measures such as co-ordinated action by Police, council enforcement officers and school staff challenging illegal and anti-social parking "

"The schools are working on refreshing their school travel plans, which could potentially unlock funding for further highways and infrastructure measures and has involved a process of engaging with parents."

FURTHER STEPS

The Parish Council is keen to know what else could be done, whether more yellow lines would help ? Would extra car parking ease the problem or make it worse?

Ideas to encourage walking and cycling to school are also being sought.

Would these road markings make a difference on Church Road?
