A pet tortoise has been rescued from a house fire in South Wiltshire.

Crews from five stations were called out to Turner Avenue in Tisbury at around 8.30am today (Thursday 13th April).

The blaze was found in a first floor bedroom, with the loft space also checked for any fire spread.

Fire engines from Mere, Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Warminster and Salisbury attended.

None of the occupants of the house were there at the time of the incident.

The tortoise was given oxygen, but is OK.
