Tisbury and Nadder Valley on 'Best Places to Live' list
If you live in the part of Wiltshire it seems you're in the right spot
Tisbury and The Nadder Valley are named as one of the best places to live in Britain by the Sunday Times.
The area, which includes Wiltshire's largest village, in on a list of 78 most desirable locations across the country.
Judges spent time looking at air quality, schools, communbity spirit, broadband speeds and many other things in their decision making.
They also took into consideration important factors like the countryside, transport and the health of the high street.
Tim Palmer, co-author of the annual guide said:
"Countryside is very important, that doesn't have to be rolling hills and mountains, it can just be a nice park, but you do want to make sure you've got somewhere you can have a nice walk."
"The other thing we look for really hard, we always look for really hard, but this year in particular is community spirit because I don't think it's ever been more important to look after your neighbours, and know your neighbours, and not feel isolated and cut off."
Stroud in Gloucestershire topped the list of this year's Sunday Times Best Places To Live 2021, but the guide definitely has a soft spot for Tisbury and The Nadder Valley.
Nadder Valley: 'English countryside at its natural best'
Judges loved the whole area describing the Nadder Valley as the English countryside at its natural best, adding that the valley 'has thousands of years of history, but is far from over the hill'.
Here's an excerpt from their write-up:
"To get a flavour of the Nadder Valley check out new homes in the village of Ansty, where there are barn conversions available on a historical estate close to a farm shop, gastropub and polo grounds. The English countryside doesn’t get much more polished than this. The valley’s undulating hills stretch from Wilton near Salisbury to Shaftesbury, and form part of the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs area of outstanding natural beauty. The endless miles of bridleways and footpaths offer opportunities for riding, walking and cycling. Many of these take you past clusters of thatched cottages in pretty villages such as Teffont Magna, Barford St Martin and Hindon. Affluent locals mean some villages remain surprisingly well served; Fovant, for example, with its 13th-century church." Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2021 Tisbury and The Nadder Valley
Tim Palmer said the Covid-19 pandemic made their job of judging places more challenging this year:
"Some people have visited all of them, obviously that's been a little bit harder this year but we've done our best. And the thing that we definitely always do is make sure we have a lot of conversations with people who live there because there is no better indicator of how good a place is than how much people like living there."
