Tisbury man handed three-year driving ban for suspected drink-driving
Michael Salter, 32, refused to give a breath sample when arrested
A man from Tisbury has been banned from driving for three years after refusing to do a breath test when suspected of drink driving.
He's also been ordered to pay a £120 fine and costs of £620 at hearing earlier this month.
Michael Salter of Wyndhams Place, Tisbury was arrested after being spotted driving a white van erratically by a Roads Policing officer in an unmarked vehicle on 1st April 2023.
The 32-year-old was seen spinning the wheels, almost crashing into a wall and doing 36mph in a 20mph area.
Officer followed Salter to his home and spoke to him at his vehicle, where they smelt a strong stench of alcohol on his breath - but Salter refused a breath sample.
He was then arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a sample of breath and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
Roads Policing Officer Luke Hobbs said: “We appreciate the concern in Tisbury around drink drivers and we are fully committed to cracking down on people who choose to get behind the wheel of a vehicle when they’ve been drinking.
“There can never be an excuse for it.
“Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences: these are the five offences which are the most likely to lead to death or serious injury collisions on our roads.
“Please help us keep Wiltshire’s roads safe and if you have been drinking then find another way to travel.”
