Tilshead scoops Best Kept Village accolade in Wiltshire
Tilshead celebrates competition success
Tilshead has won the medium village category in the Best Kept Village competition run by the CPRE, the Countryside charity.
39 villages entered this year with the judges looking at a range or criteria, including tidiness, cleanliness, presentation, conservation and community spirit.
Tilshead, which lies in the heart of Salisbury Plain, impressed the judges who said it gave "an immediate impression of a well-cared for village in which the wider community participate"
Other comments mentioned the road verges, hedges, graveyard and the Hillier Playing Field
Debby Potter is the Chair of Tilshead Parish Council:
“We are clearly very delighted at being awarded the Best Kept Village in the Medium Category. A great effort was needed over a period time by parishioners, in order to achieve this award. When I initially received the news I likened it to Tilshead winning an Olympic gold medal. Well done to everyone, the award highlights our village within the heart of Wiltshire”.
Ramsbury took the large village category with Whiteparish in second whilst Castle Eaton, in the north of the county won small village and the newcomer category.
Urchfont, won the Laurence Kitching Award, sponsored by Princeton Homes, which is often called the 'winner of winners' competition. The category consisted of the winning six villages from 2018 and 2019.
Judges congratulated the community on Salisbury Plain for an "outstanding performance."
Almost every feature of the village had been well cared for and many were "immaculate."
There were also three conservation areas and again community spirit shone through.
The competition, sponsored by Hills, was unable to be held last year due to the pandemic.
