Tickets go on general sale this morning for the 2022 Chalke Valley History Festival.

It's returning to Wiltshire this year in it's normal, pre-pandemic format with 7 days of events.

The event was held in 2021, however it was shortened version of what we normally can expect.

The festival in Broad Chalke runs from the 20th to 26th of June and will look at history through entertainment, shows and discussions.

The festival will open with the Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room, a prestigious hub for literary communities around the world which celebrates literature in all its forms.

Camilla, who's an avid reader, launched the club on Instagram last year.

Historical novelist Philippa Gregory will be taking part for the first time in the festival whilst author Sebastain Faulks makes a welcome return.

Other highlights include a stunning Iron Age round house and settlement, built specifically for this year’s festival using the very tools and materials that would have been employed by those in Britain before the Roman invasion.

TV presenter and historian Dan Snowwill be talking about his epic journey to Antarctica to find Sir Ernest Shakleton's shipwreck Endurance,

The popular World War Two trench makes a return along with the extensive programme for schools.

Festival Chair, James Holland, said:

“There really is going to be an incredible range of history on offer this year. Our talks and discussions have traditionally been the backbone of the festival and, once again, we have among the very best historians around coming to speak.

"But more than ever we are offering a much wider programme that includes lots of live music, a reconstructed Iron Age round-house, vintage funfair and some truly stunning and original living history displays, from Restoration-era horse racing to a forensic reconstruction of how Richard III lost his life at Bosworth. There will be so much on offer for children and families visiting together and I really do think this is our very best programme ever.”

Tickets can be bought via the Chalke Valley History Festival's website.
