Thruxton Circuit set for exciting BTCC weekend
There's lots of talent on track this weekend (3rd and 4th June)
Thruxton Circuit welcomes the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) this weekend (Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June) with another good show expected on the track.
Marketing manager Ben Norton says it’s the “most exciting championship in the UK”.
Asked what makes it so, he said: “With some of the other series, sometimes its exciting and sometimes it’s not.
“With British touring cars, every single race is extremely exciting and there's always action throughout the field and often going into the last that you don't know who's going to win and so far this year they've had numerous different winners, different people leading the championship.”
An estimated 30,000 people are set to watch the action over the weekend.
The fastest, the smallest and the future will be on show
And it’s not just the British Touring Cars on show this weekend, as the Porsche Carrera Cup is in support of the BTCC series. Ben says that’s likely to be one of the fastest races over the weekend.
Also on the schedule is the British F4 championship, where the stars of the future hone their talents. That series has previously been won by McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris.
There’s also a classic Mini race, which Ben described as “incredible to watch”: “They're the original minis and they draft each other around the track.
“So they follow in the top of each other and then they all spread out as they approach the corner and then try and late break each other and dive past and that that is incredible to watch.
“That's something you have to see with your own eyes, and I guarantee the person leading on the beginning of that last app will not win the race.”
Off-track activities and more to come in 2023
The action isn’t just on the circuit, with a range of activities to keep everyone entertained, as they try to attract a family crowd.
Ben told us: “We've got lots of kids activities, we've got racing simulators, got mini go karts, face painting, bouncy castles and things like that.
“We've also got some car club displays, supercar displays, lots of food stalls and in the evening we've got live music as well.”
And after the BTCC weekend, the Thruxton Historic is just a couple of weeks around the corner, on the 17th & 18th of June, followed by the British Truck Championship and the season is completed by the British Super Bike Championship rolling into town in August.
Even when there’s no racing action, there are things to do at the circuit, such as driving experiences in supercars and racing cars.
There’s also a outdoor karting centre, a skid pan facility and 4x4 off road driving course which the public can have a go at.
