It's been confirmed that three further patients have died at Salisbury District Hospital, having tested positive for Covid-19.

That brings the number of fatalities since the pandemic started to 253.

A spokesperson for the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said:

"Sadly, we can confirm that three patients who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

"One patient in his 70s died on Friday 25th February. A second patient, who was in his 70s, died on Saturday 26th February. A third patient, in his 80s, died today 28th February. All three patients had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time."

The Trust also say they're continuing to look after a high number of Covid positive patients.

There are currently 48 people being treated at Salisbury District Hospital.

The NHS Foundation Trust has said:

"We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission. Although the government has lifted restrictions, the hospital’s COVID-19 measures remain in place until further notice.

"We remind visitors to the hospital that they must wear a face mask when in the hospital and have a negative lateral flow test before entering the buildings. They should not visit if they have any symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, with the current levels of COVID-19 still in our community, people should take up the invitation for a COVID-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get a first vaccine.”
