Three new girl choristers added to Salisbury Cathedral choir

They've had to be traditionally 'bumped' in!

Salisbury Cathedral has added three new girl choristers to their ranks, during a special Evensong service.

Daisy, Harriet and Carys were formally admitted on Sunday (2nd October).

They were 'bumped' in, as a 30 year old tradition dictates, with the new choristers tapped on the head with a large prayer book, with their names inscribed into it afterwards.

The girls all have strong connections to the Cathedral already.

Daisy's brother Harry is in the boys choir; Harriet's dad is the Director of Music at Bishop Wordsworth School; and Carys' dad is one of Salisbury's Lay Vicars (adult singers) at the Cathedral.

During the same service, four other girl choristers - Tilly, Mary, Faith and Ava - were promoted to senior positions in the choir.

This all comes ahead of what's usually a busy time for Salisbury Cathedral's choirs.

They'll be taking part in a number of Advent and Christmas services, including the popular Darkness to Light procession at the end of November.
