What's the best bit about Salisbury's Charter Fair?

We've been asking punters what they think of this year's event

Salisbury's Charter Fair comes to a close for 2023 this evening (Wednesday 18th October), having continued a long-held tradition in the city.

We've been out in the Market Place and Guildhall Square finding out how this year's fair has been received.

We asked punters whether the cost-of-living crisis had affected how much they chose to spend at the fair.

One woman told us she'd already spent 'a fair bit', but admitted that other families could be struggling and might have limited the number of rides they went on as a result.

Another lady told us: "For the fair, I imagine it might be a bit tough, because they have to charge the prices they have to charge."

The same woman, a fair goer since she was a child, said prices had risen.

The best of the Charter Fair

We also asked punters what the standout part of the Charter Fair is.

One man told us it was the sensory experience, saying "visually I think it's great".

A woman told us it was the food and the music. "When you've got a nice day like this, to be able to come down and listen to the music, see everyone, have some fun and snack on some food you don't get all year round."

Another woman we spoke to said she was 'living her childhood' at the fair, while another said it was nice to see the rides.

The fair, which dates from 1227, closes for 2023 at 10.00pm tonight.
