The Test Valley's top policeman has retired, after 30 years of service.

Chief Inspector Kory Thorne, the District Commander for the West Hampshire borough, ended his career last week.

The 54 year old joined Hampshire Police in February 1993, starting in Basingstoke as a PC, and later having a stint as New Forest Chief Inspector too.

He's been the Test Valley's district commander since 2012.

Chief Insp Thorne said:

“I’ve really enjoyed my time as district commander for Test Valley. It’s a diverse district in terms of what policing style has to be deployed.

“I have enjoyed working with our partners, who are very proactive, and I have enjoyed the successes we have had in dealing with criminality and anti-social behaviour.

“The main highlight has been that, for the most part, we have been able to keep Test Valley as a safe place.”

Kory now plans to take some time off to travel and see relatives, saying there'll be things about the job he misses:

“I’m going to miss the people that I have worked with, for sure. They are a good bunch of people. And I will miss the vast majority of people that support us because they give us the mandate to deliver.”

Chief Insp Hayley O’Grady has been appointed as the new district commander for Test Valley.
