COVID UPDATE: Ten positive patients at Salisbury District Hospital
Numbers have remained relatively low compared to the figures across Wiltshire
Salisbury District Hospital have confirmed that they currently have ten in-patients that are positive with Covid-19.
That's a slight increase on the previous total we were given, which was eight on July 29th.
This is when the last death was recorded as well, with the total remaining at 217.
The patient figures at the peak of the second wave at the beginning of this year reached 188 at SDH.
It comes as under 30s in Wiltshire are being encouraged to get their vaccines.
Around a quarter of them in the county have yet to receive a jab, showing that there is some hesitancy in that age group.
Professor Adam Finn, member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, said he sensed a perception among many young adults that they are not at risk from the virus:
"We are now seeing people who are young and previously healthy getting seriously ill, so it would be correct to adjust that perception.
"It is important not to die of ignorance – if you really know the facts about the disease and know the facts about vaccinations, going and getting the vaccination is a complete no-brainer."
