Major flooding has shut the A338 at Fordingbridge.

The water's spreading across most of the carriageway close to Burgate School, following prolonged heavy rain.

More showers are forecast for the rest of the week, so Hampshire County Council's taken action.

The road is closed between Salisbury Road and the junction with the B3078.

HGV's can get through the closure via gatemen.

That is causing some tailbacks in both directions, while drivers are having to slow down through the stretch that's become waterlogged.

Hampshire Highways says it is working to clear the flood before an assessment of the drainage can be taken.

Sharing an update on its Twitter page, it says river level remains high as off midday today, meaning drainages will be less effective during this time.

This also comes after cars became stranded in flood waters there over the weekend.

One car had to be pulled out of the area, with other vehicles abandoned.

Flooding has been an issue on this stretch of road for many years, but we're told by locals that this is the worst they've ever seen it.
