Temporary fix sorted for Amesbury gas leak
A more permanent repair is planned in the coming days
A temporary repair's been carried out on a gas leak in Amesbury, which led to homes being evacuated yesterday (Monday 29th July).
A digger ruptured the mains line on Mill Green Road at around 1.20pm, with SGN, firefighters and police attending.
Residents there and on Lyndhurst Road were subject to a 100 metre cordon, with roads also closed.
They were allowed back home at around 9.00pm last night.
We're told a more permanent fix will be arranged in the coming days.
In a statement, SGN has said:
"Our engineers have made a temporary repair to our gas network in Lyndhurst Road in Amesbury following damage from a third party.
"Residents are returning to their homes tonight and the temporary road closures have been lifted.
"We’ll need to return in the coming days to make a permanent repair but we plan to do this with minimal disruption and hope to avoid any further road closures.
"Thank you to the local community for your patience and understanding today and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused."
Amesbury firefighters have posted on social media to thank people for their patience during the incident:
"Thank you to all the residents that were affected by yesterday's incident for your cooperation, we understand that the road closures caused difficulty but it was the safest option whilst the incident was on going.
"To clear up any queries Boscombe Road is open as usual and no further road closures are in place."
