Teenagers have again been spotted jumping from a bridge in Fordingbridge into the River Avon

It's a popular spot for what's often referred to as tombstoning.

Emergency Services along with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents say jumping into the unknown carries risks and can have severe and life-threatening consequences.

The water may be shallower than people realise, there may be submerged objects and the shock of the cold water can affect even the strongest swimmer.

Locals say the spot in the Hampshire town also has many weeds which people can get tangled in.

Hampshire Police say it's a dangerous practice and is urging anyone who spots it happening to contact them.

“We understand that people may be willing to find ways to cool down, especially in these extreme temperatures, however partaking in activities such as jumping into the River Avon is completely unacceptable and very dangerous.

“As we enter the summer season these types of incidents sadly increase in the local area around our waterways.

“We urge members of the public to report incidents of antisocial behaviour like this to us so we can take action and make the area safe.

“As tempting as the water may be, remember that the water may be shallower than you think, there may be hidden objects such as rocks and you could potentially seriously harm yourself, or others around you. It is simply not worth the risk.”
