Taste Salisbury Festival launches for third year
A winner of the Great British Bake Off was in the city today
The Taste Salisbury festival has today (Thursday 28th September) launched for its third year.
The annual celebration of our city’s hospitality traditions opened with events across the city, including a visit from a winner of the Great British Bake Off.
And this year, organisers Experience Salisbury wanted to further the festivals inclusion of culture within Salisbury.
“We need to get Salisbury back on the map,” Experience Salisbury’s manager Ellie Burke told us. “We’re always aiming to get people to understand for more than the poisonings or the Cathedral.
“We know our hospitality is a real gem in our crown, especially our independents.”
Everyone gets involved
The festival kicked off today with a floral table décor event at Casa Fina, as well as the visit of 2021 GBBO winner Guiseppe Dell’Anno in the Taste Marquee in the Guildhall Square.
And with events across the city until Sunday, climaxing with the Great Salisbury Bake Off, the festival brings plenty to the local community.
“It’s been proven that a festival like this has really helped increase footfall, spend and attraction to the city,” Ellie said.
“It’s amazing to see all the businesses get involved and great to see the whole community taking advantage of it.”
And this year, the aim has been to weave the city’s culture into the festival.
“We have so much to offer as Salisbury, we are so unique, we are truly traditional and original and that’s our unique selling point.
“I think our culture is one of those great ways we achieve that,” Ellie told Greatest Hits Radio.
Foodie Sunday
Foodie Sunday features a range of events and activities for us to get our teeth stuck into.
With the Bake Off competition being the prime event of the day, there’s lots for us to learn and understand, including with Time Travellers Kitchen, which will be giving us a taste of Pompeii in Italy.
Ellie told us she’s looking forward to the Beer and Cheese pairing experience most.
“It’s a self-guided experience where you get to taste and compare cheese’s from Ginny’s dairy and beers from the Gritchie company.
“You get to work out which is your favourite (combination).”
And seeing the Market Place buzzing with activity allows the city to thrive.
“I love it when the square’s bustling,” Ellie said, “To see it filled with vibrancy, with culture, with events, it really does bring (people) in.
“It is a unique asset to our city.”
